Rogue Ranger Stewardship Projects

The Rogue Ranger Volunteer Program is a Friends of Chimney Rock State Park sponsored program where volunteers assist rangers with some of their most rewarding job duties.  These opportunities include marking uncharted territories, bushwhacking new trails, battling invasive plants, renewing recreational opportunities, and socializing at local events!

Fire It Up!

Celebrate NC State Parks Week at Chimney Rock!  Volunteers will be working on Saturday, March 5th at the Old Rock Café from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  They will be installing a new fire ring along the Riverwalk Trail for rangers to use as they promote North Carolina State Parks’ Centennial and 100 s’more years of fun!

After the volunteer project the Friends of Chimney Rock State Park would like to say thank you to of all the park’s volunteers.  Volunteers will receive one free dessert or adult beverage from the Old Rock Café from 12 to 1 p.m.

After refreshments the public is invited to join the volunteers and the superintendent for s’mores around a campfire from 1 to 2 p.m. as we remember last year’s accomplishments and talk about future projects in the park.  Come, volunteer, eat, drink, and socialize with us.

Call the park office at 828-625-1823 to sign up.

The North Face

What better way to help celebrate National Trails Day than to embark on a North Face Expedition! We will be scouting out a new trail at the Rumbling Bald Climbing Access on Saturday, June 4 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Join the superintendent and the Carolina Climbers’ Coalition as we attempt to map out a sustainable trail route to Party Rock and the North Face of Rumbling Bald.

We will be mapping with a GPS along the base, edge, and top of Rumbling Bald Mountain.  This project crosses extremely difficult terrain and is not for the novice hiker or outdoors enthusiast.  No trail exists along this new route.

Wear appropriate clothing, footwear, and insect repellent for the environment.  Bring water, snacks, and a lunch for breaks.

Call the park office at 828-625-1823 to sign up.

Wrong Turn…

Volunteers will be working on Saturday, September 10th at the Rumbling Bald Climbing Access from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Our trail is being damaged by hikers taking shortcuts down the switchbacks, so to prevent this we will be installing new guardrails between the switchbacks. This will discourage hikers from taking shortcuts and eroding our park trails.

Bring work gloves, and wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the environment.  Bring water, snacks, and lunch for breaks.

Call the park office at 828-625-1823 to sign up.
